Laser hair reduction is an effective and non-invasive medical procedure which removes the unwanted facial and body hair.

Principle

In this process, the laser machine emits a pulsating beam of light of specific wavelength which targets the hair follicles and melanin pigment within it . This light energy is converted into heat energy which gets absorbed by the melanin thus damaging the hair follicle inhibiting future hair growth.

Laser hair reduction can be done in all skin types and can be done in both men and women.

Common areas treated are:

• Underarms, chin, upper lip, face, legs, back or bikini area.
• Some people also opt for a full body laser hair reduction.  

Need for multiple sessions 

A hair follicle has to be in the anagen phase or growth stage for the laser to work. Follicles are in different phases at different times, so most people need multiple laser treatments. These sessions are done a month apart.

Anyone with extra body hair can have laser hair removal. It’s usually a cosmetic procedure. It may improve your appearance or self-image. Many people don’t prefer to shave regularly or wax.

So laser hair reduction is a good-to-go treatment.

• Pregnancy
• If suffering from acne
• Cold sores
• Genital herpes (HSV-2) 
• Keloid scars (raised scars).

How to prep for LHR 

• You need to avoid waxing, plucking, bleaching and sun exposure four to six weeks prior to the procedure for desirable effects.
• Shave the area to be treated one to two days before the  procedure. You have to avoid waxing, tweezing and plucking hair in the treated areas post procedure too.

Steps during the session 

• Cleansing  of the area that is to be treated is done.
• Protective goggles are  given to wear.
• The treated area is marked and shaved.
• Then, we start the procedure on your skin with the laser after the application of gel.
• The time required for the procedure depends on the surface area which is to be treated. Full body LHR needs approx. 3-4 hrs.
• Post procedure some ice packs are applied to soothe the skin followed by a good moisturiser and a sunscreen which is a must.

Expectations from LHR

• It is usually a painless procedure. You may smell a smoke or burning of the hair during the session but its normal and is because of the laser’s heat.
• You will be needing at least 6-10 sessions for desirable results.
• Gradually the thickness and the density of the hair decreases, also the hair takes a longer time to grow.
