Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is a condition resulting in excessive sweating. Hyperactive sweat glands are caused due  sweat, which is your body’s temperature regulator. In cases of hyperhidrosis, sweating significantly exceeds the body’s normal requirements.  It commonly affects your palms , soles, armpits, your face or may be overall as well. 

Ideal Candidates for Hyperhidrosis Treatment.

Criteria used to diagnose hyperhidrosis include having any 2 of the following symptoms or factors:

  • Excessive sweating for more than 6 months, occurring at least once a week.
  • Sweating impairs daily activities.
  • Excessive sweating is bilateral, occurring on both hands, feet, or armpits.
  • Onset before age 25.
  • Family history of excessive sweating.
  • Excessive sweating stops while asleep.

 

Treatments

 

Lifestyle modifications:

  • Wear loose and light clothes
  • Use antiperspirants
  • Avoid wearing black colour as it tends to increase the sweating
  • One can take behavorial therapy if anxiety seems to be cause for hyperhidrosis
  • Try using moisture absorbing socks

 

Medicines- these includes application topical creams containing aluminium chloride or aluminium chloride hexahydrate, intake of oral medications such as anti-cholinergic drugs which helps to reduce the sweating

 

Botox is said to be an appropriate treatment for hyperhidrosis which has been approved by the FDA. Botox blocks the chemical signals  from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. The effects lasts for 6 months

 

Iontophoresis: It involves sending a gentle electrical current through water to decrease your sweat production.
