Clinical Features

• Dry skin
• Small hard bumps surrounding the hair follicle
• Uneven surface with white, red or skin coloured lumps
• Rough and at times itchy skin specially on the upper arms, legs, thighs and buttocks.
• Bumps may also contain hair follicle.

Treatments

• Use of moisturising creams containing ammonium lactate  for dry skin helps to reduce the effects of keratosis.
• Exfoliation: Topical exfoliants that contain urea, salicylic acid, lactic acid, alpha hydroxy acids helps to reduce the appearance of keratosis. It also aids in removing the dead cell layer from the surface of the skin.
• Topical retinoids helps to unplug the hair follicles with exfoliation.
• Laser treatment is another option for redness associated with keratosis.
