Ageing processes are of two types : intrinsic and extrinsic ageing.
- Chronological , physiological,or intrinsic ageing has an effect on the skin of the entire body.
- Extrinsic ageing or photoageing is caused due to chronic ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure, excessive smoking, and other pollutants.
Causes for the skin to age
Intrinsic ageing is defined by the clinical, histological and physiological changes that occur in sun-protected areas of skin of older individuals. Intrinsic ageing can be compounded by other environmental factors.
