Vitiligo

Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a systemic autoimmune disorder of skin causing depigmentation in which pigment (melanin) producing cells (melanocytes) are lost. It is seen as milky-white patches with well-defined margins on the skin(leukoderma). Vitiligo can be cosmetically disturbing particularly in dark skinned people. Vitiligo is a non-contagious disease and does not spread on touch. Mandatory treatment isn’t necessary but one can go for the treatment if she/he isn’t comfortable with these changes on the skin.

Vitiligo affects both men and women of any colour. Physiologically it can lower one’s self-esteem & may lead to poor self-image.
