- A ‘xanthelasma’ is a small yellowish looking growth or a bump that appears on or near the eyelids.
- They are yellow cholesterol or fat deposits on the skin.
- They are painless and doesn’t hamper your day to day activities.
- It is a good indicator for high amount of cholesterol levels in the body.
- Cosmetically such growths are embarrassing as it looks unsightly and unpleasant.
Who gets xanthelasma?
- Mostly seen in women than in men.
- People who are in forties and fifties.
- Those who have higher cholesterol levels.
- Overweight people and the one’s who suffer suffer from diabetes and hypertension.
- Those who smoke.
Treatments
- Chemical peels – Some dermatologist may advised chemical peels.
- Electrocauterisation – is another procedure one can under go for xanthelasma.
- Traditional surgery can be done to get it removed.
- Carbon dioxide or argon laser therapy.
- Cryotherapy (cold or freezing surgery) is another technique used for removal xanthelasma.
