Xanthelasma

  • A ‘xanthelasma’ is a small yellowish looking growth or a bump that appears on or near the eyelids.
  • They are yellow cholesterol or fat deposits on the skin.
  • They are painless and doesn’t hamper your day to day activities.
  • It is a good indicator for high amount of cholesterol levels in the body.
  • Cosmetically such growths are embarrassing as it looks unsightly and unpleasant.

 

Who gets xanthelasma?

  • Mostly seen in women than in men.
  • People who are in forties and fifties.
  • Those who have higher cholesterol levels.
  • Overweight people and the one’s who suffer suffer from diabetes and hypertension.
  • Those who smoke.

 

Treatments

  • Chemical peels – Some dermatologist may advised chemical peels.
  • Electrocauterisation – is another procedure one can under go for xanthelasma.
  • Traditional surgery can be done to get it removed.
  • Carbon dioxide or argon laser therapy.
  • Cryotherapy (cold or freezing surgery) is another technique used for removal xanthelasma.
